What is a pearl? Where do they come from? Provide brief information about what a pearl is and where they are found, how they are made and the likelihood of finding one. Provide an image.
A pearl is a hard, shiny, typically white or bluish-gray, that forms in the shell of a pearl oyster and is a highly prized as a gem. Natural Pearls are either saltwater found in gulfs, bays, seas and oceans or freshwater found in rivers and lakes. When a unknown object is introduced into a mussel or oyster the animal coats the irritant with a substance called nacre, the same material with which it builds it's shell. Layers of nacre build up to make a pearl. The odds of finding a pearl is very slim, you have a 0.008% chance of finding a pearl in the ocean, river, or lake.
